About This Story

The dress did a lot of the talking here. Feathers and ruffles, the kind of gown that needs space and light to actually work. The orangery gave it both, glass on every side, late afternoon light turning everything slightly gold.

Later, candles. A proper cluster of them on the floor against draped fabric, taking an afternoon to arrange and twenty minutes to burn through. A quiet moment by the table, hands finding each other without anyone arranging it. Outside, just shoes left in the grass. Sometimes that is the photograph.
